Henley to Kingston upon Thames (6 nights) Monday 14 August 2023

Windsor Castle

We leave our overnight mooring and cruise up the famous length of the Henley Regatta course. We are sure to see rowers hard in training. Henley is a charming town with over 300 buildings designated as being of special architectural and historical interest. One will also find a most informative Rowing museum in the town.

The river meanders along as we approach Marlow with its impressive suspension bridge over the Thames. We will then pass into Cliveden Deep. Arguably the most picturesque stretch of the River Thames. Cliveden Hotel high in the trees on the hill will be behind us as we continue on. The Hotel was built by in 1966 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham for his mistress. It certainly has seen its fair share of famous personalities and scandalous affairs.

As we come to Maidenhead we will pass under Brunei’s Sounding Arch Bridge. This carries the railway line over the river. When the bridge was built it featured in Turners painting “Rain, Steam and Speed. It was the widest flattest arch bridge in the world. Bray with its wealth of fine waterfront properties and Michelin starred restaurants is Maidenheads neighbour.

Very close to Bray is the Eton Dorney Olympic rowing lake. We also pass the Windsor race course with its Marina. The splendid town of Windsor is a short cruise from here. Our visit stop here will give ample time for guests to enjoy the many sites. Windsor Castle was the Queens favourite home and now her final resting place. Windsor Great Park and Eton College are close by to be explored.

Our journey will take us to Runnymede, the home of the Magna Carta, RAF Memorial and Kennedy Memorial. All a short walk from the riverbank.

We pass Staines, Chertsey, Shepperton, Walton and Sunbury as we continue. Shepperton is famous for its Film Studios.

Hampton Court is our next visit stop, mooring dependant. This is a stunning location allowing guests time to explore the Palace, magnificent gardens and town itself.

We end this scenic cruise in the Surrey market town of Kingston upon Thames.
